Tanzania’s second-highest mountain (4,566m) • Abundant wildlife sightings on Day 1 (buffaloes, warthogs, monkeys, birds)  • Excellent acclimatization trek before Kilimanjaro  • Scenic ascent and descent via the Momela Route • Dormitory-style mountain hut accommodation

Momella Gate (1,500m) – Miriakamba Hut (2,541m)

Hiking Time: 4–6 hours

Depart early from your accommodation in Arusha and drive to Momella Gate (approx. 1 hour from Arusha / 3 hours from Moshi). After completing park formalities and meeting your guide, cook, porters, and ranger, begin your ascent through open grasslands—perfect for spotting wildlife such as buffaloes and warthogs.

Cross the Ngare Nanyuki River and hike through the forest, where you may encounter black-and-white colobus monkeys and various bird species. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut for your overnight stay.

Miriakamba Hut (2,541m) – Saddle Hut (3,570m)

Hiking Time: 3–5 hours

Today’s trail is shorter but steeper. You’ll ascend through a forested trail to the halfway point at Elephant Ridge, offering great views of the crater. After lunch at Saddle Hut, enjoy an acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,794m) before returning to the hut for dinner and overnight rest.

Saddle Hut – Rhino Point – Socialist Peak (4,566m) – Return to Miriakamba Hut

Hiking Time: 10–12 hours

Begin your summit attempt between 1:00–2:00 AM. Trek steeply to Rhino Point (3,850m) and along a narrow ridge to Socialist Peak (4,566m), arriving at sunrise for breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape.

After enjoying the summit, descend back to Saddle Hut for a break, and continue down to Miriakamba Hut for your final overnight stay.

Note: Summit attempts may be canceled in case of strong winds or icy conditions. Your guide will make the final safety decision.

Miriakamba Hut – Momella Gate

Hiking Time: 2–5 hours

Start your descent around 8:00 AM. Choose between a shorter or longer scenic route. The longer route offers chances to spot more wildlife and visit the ash cone. Once at Momella Gate, it’s time to tip your team before heading back to Arusha.
